Metro Line 16 will extend southward and will have interchanges with Shenzhen-Shenshan Intercity Rail and Metro Lines 18 and 19, according to an environment report released by Shenzhen Metro on its official website recently.
The 9.46-kilometer extension, Phase II of Line 16, starts from Universiade Station in Longgang District and runs along Longgang Boulevard, Changjiangpu Road and Hongfeng Road. It goes southward along Wanfu Road, Gongyuan Road and Shahe Road and ends at Jiaoyu Road in Xikeng area.
It has eight stations including two that are interchange stations with Line 19 at Yuanshan Station, and with Line 18 and Shenzhen-Shenshan Intercity Rail at Anliang Station.
Work on the project will start this September and will be completed in September 2025.
The Phase II project, a route in the adjusted plan of Phase IV construction of the city’s rail network (2017-2022), will strengthen connectivity of Longgang CBD with the Yuanshan Area and Yantian District. It is a transport hub in southern Henggang and will be helpful in improving the transportation network on the city’s east side.
The Phase I of Metro Line 16, which is currently under construction, starts from Universiade Station and ends at Tianxin Station, passing Universiade Town, Longgang CBD and Pingshan CBD. The line will be put into operation in 2022.
