Visitors tour the Futian court"s cultural gallery June 29 last year.
FUTIAN District People"s Court will open its doors to expats in Shenzhen for the second year in a row Nov. 15.
The court"s Open Day will be held from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 15, with a theme of "Insight Into Justice." The event will feature a guided tour of the litigation service center, a cultural gallery and the court"s museum to help visitors learn about the history of the Futian court. The three-hour event will also feature observation of Chinese court proceedings and a panel discussion of legal affairs.
The Open Day aims to further improve judicial transparency and provide expats with an opportunity to get a firsthand look behind the scenes of the local justice system.
Visitors must be at least 18 years old and can apply for a spot by visiting the Futian court"s official website, www.ftcourt.gov.cn, and downloading an application form. Completed forms can be emailed to ftfylat@163.com or faxed to 0755-8291-1008. Interested parties can also apply by calling Ms. Zhang at 0755-8292-8293 or Ms. Wang at 0755-8292-5116. English service is available.
The application deadline is Wednesday.
Applicants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis, following a qualification check. Results of the selection will be announced before Thursday. Selected visitors will be notified by phone.
More than 20 people attended last year"s Open Day, the first time that the city"s courts opened to foreigners and residents of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Last year"s event also attracted at least two law students from overseas.
Due to limited parking spaces, visitors are encouraged to take buses No. 202, M389, 28, 33, 34, B689, 103B, K113, 212, 303, M390 or 63, or Shenzhen Metro"s Longgang Line to Shixia Station.
Visitors are not allowed to take photos.
Futian District People"s Court was established in 1990. Shangbu Courthouse, established by Shenzhen Intermediate People"s Court in 1983, was its predecessor.
