10,000 celebrate culture week
THE First China Youth Culture Week opened Saturday in the city"s China Folk Culture Villages, with more than 10,000 young people including 3,000 from Hong Kong and Macao participating.
During a three-hour performance, minority nationalities staged folk acrobatic performances, ancient equestrian skills, a dragon-boat regatta and folk singing and dancing.
About 10,000 young Chinese from all over the world expressed their feelings for the country by signing their names and "I love China" on a red horizontal scroll at the opening ceremony.
They expected to challenge for a listing in the Guinness World Book of Records.
More than 1,100 volunteers from the Shenzhen volunteers" association wearing red jackets provided service during the opening ceremony for 12 hours under 35-degree Celsius heat.
Activities continued Sunday with singing and dancing and a first-class exhibition of Chinese art works. The exhibition will continue until Wednesday, at the new municipal children"s palace next to the Citizens" Center.
Two forums will be held Monday and Tuesday.
