Shenzhen reported one local confirmed case of COVID-19, the city’s health authority said yesterday.
The patient, 30, lives in Nanshan and works at customs in Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport. He is mainly responsible for the epidemiological investigation of inbound passengers on international flights.
The patient tested negative during a routine nucleic acid testing June 8.
On Monday morning, the patient developed symptoms of runny nose and fever, with body temperature reaching 37.9 degrees Celsius. He was taken to the fever clinic of Bao’an District Central Hospital in an ambulance and tested positive for COVID-19.
The patient’s nucleic acid test result was confirmed by the Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He was transferred to Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital for treatment and was diagnosed as a mild case of COVID-19.
Genetic sequencing shows the new confirmed case is connected to three imported COVID-19 cases found on an international flight, the Shenzhen CDC said.
As of yesterday afternoon, 87 close contacts with the patient had been identified, and all of them have been isolated for medical observation.
The residential building and complex the patient lives in have implemented closed management as required. His apartment, residential complex and some key places he has traveled to have been disinfected.
Shenzhen has also reported three imported COVID-19 cases yesterday, according to the city’s health authority.
The imported cases are three males of Chinese nationality from South Africa. They were quarantined upon entry and were taken to Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital for treatment.
