TEN athletes from Shenzhen have been selected to compete at the upcoming Rio Olympic Games.
China will send 416 athletes, including 35 Olympic champions, to the Rio Olympics.
The Chinese delegation was unveiled in Beijing on Monday.
The 10 Shenzhen athletes include Liu Hong, two-time champions at the IAAF World Championships and world record holder in the 20-km race walking for women; Chen Ding, gold medalist of the men"s 20-km race at the 2012 London Olympics; He Zi, gold medalist of synchronized diving at the 2012 London Olympics; and Yi Jianlian, former NBA player and champion of FIBA Asia Championship.
Yi will represent the Chinese basketball team.
The list also includes professional golfer Li Haotong; Chen Peina, champion of the World Windsurfing Championships in 2015; Huang Bokai, pole vault Asian record holder; Liang Meiyu, a field hockey player; and Mo Youxue, runner-up in 4x100 meter relay race at the IAAF World Championships.
Comparing the Chinese team to the London Olympics, the number of Shenzhen athletes at the Rio Olympics was reduced by four, but the competition ability for medals has been enhanced, according to Han Xinyuan, deputy chief of Shenzhen"s culture, sports and tourism administration.
"Liu Hong, Chen Ding, He Zi and Chen Peina all have the strength for a medal, even the gold medal," said Han.
Liu and He were stable in world rankings in past years.
Liu, 29, has participated in two Olympic Games, but failed to win a medal.
In June last year, Liu broke the world record in the 20-km race for women with 1:24:38 and won the 20-km race gold medal at the IAAF Beijing World Championships.
