RESIDENTS who have been covered by social security in Shenzhen can now use their social security cards to pay for medical bills in 10 cities outside Guangdong, according to sznews.com.
The 10 cities are Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Chongqing, Changsha, Chengdu, Xi"an, Tianjin, Zhengzhou and Nanjing. Four insurance companies, namely Taikang Life Insurance, China Life Insurance, PICC Health Insurance and PICC Life Insurance, have set up offices in the 10 cities where the insured can submit their application materials.
Yuan Min, a marketing director of China Life Insurance"s Shenzhen branch, said the company"s offices in the 10 cities will send the materials to the Shenzhen Social Insurance Fund Management Bureau within two days after the materials are submitted by applicants.
The cross-province settlement will cover both inpatient and outpatient costs. Patients have to provide their social security cards, bank cards, receipts and lists of expenses issued by the hospitals to any office of the four insurance companies in the 10 cities. They will receive the insurance money in at least 20 workdays.
Medical institutions in Shenzhen had provided intercity settlements for 13,607 nonlocal patients in Guangdong Province as of Nov. 21, involving medical expenses of 233 million yuan (US$33.78 million).
