THE Shenzhen Municipal Consumer Council received 3,178 complaints in the form of letters and visits between April and June, 29 percent more than the first quarter of this year.
The consumer councils at the municipal and district levels successfully dealt with 99 percent or 3,146 of the total complaints and retrieved losses of around 3.2 million yuan (US$415,584) for customers, sources with the municipal consumer council said yesterday.
The complaints were mainly about the quality of household appliances, electronic products, mobile phones, clothes and footwear, and services of home decoration, the municipal consumer council said.
Among the complaints, banks were blamed for one-sided clauses and arbitrarily forcing users to take bankcards when they opened accounts.
Some debtors who had paid off part of a loan in advance complained about being made to pay interest for a whole month in advance instead of the actual interest.
Some owners of household appliances complained that repairmen didn"t inform customers in advance about their charges, and some repairmen were found to have replaced working spare parts with bad-quality ones.
Complaints about online shopping also increased with the popularity of Internet. Sellers exaggerated the usage and function of products and sent low-quality products, which were different from the ones ordered by buyers.
