REPRESENTATIONAL of Britain"s largest-ever expansion of its visa application network in China, a new visa application center (VAC) was officially in business at the Great China International Trade Center in Futian District on Friday.
The refurbished VAC center, almost twice the size of the original, will offer 24-hour visa and VIP services this year. The VIP service refers to biometric data collection and imaging services provided at a cost of about 12,000 yuan (US$1,920) for groups comprising up to 10 individuals.
"These changes will enhance our service by increasing the capacity of our centers, improving access to our premium and priority services," said Alastair Morgan, British consul general in Guangzhou.
In 2013, the U.K. processed a record number of more than 380,000 visa applications from Chinese nationals, 96 percent of which were successful. That"s up 31 percent from the previous year. Shenzhen VAC accepted a record 13,938 applications in total last year, up 35 percent over 2012.
All 12 U.K. visa centers in China have been upgraded in advance of what is expected to be another record year of visa applications in 2014. The trend to expanding numbers is expected to continue.
