The Chinese mainland reported 20 newly imported cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Monday, bringing the total number of imported cases to 143, according to the National Health Commission.
Of the 20 newly imported cases, nine were reported in Beijing, three both in Shanghai and Guangdong, and one in Zhejiang, Shandong, Guangxi, Yunnan and Shannxi, according to the commission.
The nine imported cases in Beijing included six from Spain, one from the United States and two from the United Kingdom. That brings the total of imported cases in the city to 40 by Monday.
The Shanghai Municipal Health Commission said a total of 20 imported cases have been reported so far in the city, while 44 suspected imported cases are under quarantine for further confirmation.
Authorities in Shanghai have expanded the 14-day quarantine rules to cover passengers entering the city from more countries and regions to contain the risk of further COVID-19 outbreak, the local government said yesterday.
Passengers who have traveled or lived in any of the 16 countries 14 days prior to entering Shanghai are required to be quarantined at home or in designated facilities, the local government said at a press conference.
The 16 countries are the Republic of Korea, Italy, Iran, Japan, France, Spain, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark and Austria.
Northwest China’s Shaanxi Province reported its first imported COVID-19 case Monday, saying a passenger from Indonesia is receiving isolated treatment in the provincial capital of Xian.
