THREE individual inventors signed agreements worth nearly US$21 million during the Eighth China Hi-Tech Fair (CHTF) which closed yesterday.
The fair was a great success, Shenzhen Mayor Xu Zongheng announced at the closing ceremony.
The three inventors were among the big winners at the fair, securing pledges for much-needed investment that can turn their inventions into profits.
However, the details of the inventions and the names of the investors involved were not disclosed. The fair gave exhibition space to individual inventors free of charge for the first time and 50 inventors were invited to take part. At an earlier press conference, Vice Mayor Liu Yingli said a larger amount of space would be provided to individual inventors next year.
About 612,000 people visited the six-day fair, which attracted 3,278 exhibitors, 9,765 projects and 2,690 investors, Mayor Xu said at the closing ceremony. Each booth drew on average 257.8 professional visitors during the period, up 50 from last year.
The number of foreign government delegations, investors and multinational corporations all surpassed the previous editions, with 25 foreign government delegations and 66 multinationals participating in the fair, according to Xu, who said this year"s fair was more international than ever.
Automobile manufacturer Shenzhen Zhong-xing signed a US$300 million deal with a U.S. investor for its solar-power vehicle project, the company said.
Like previous fairs, the total volume of deals signed at this year"s event was not disclosed at the closing ceremony.
The next CHTF will be held from Oct. 12 to Oct. 17 in 2007. Prior to that the fair will hold a spring session in May featuring electronic products, which is expected to be the biggest fair for consumer electronics products in South China.
