SHENZHEN will build and put 12 city-level hospitals into operation during the 13th Five-Year Plan between 2016 and 2020.
The 12 A-level hospitals will include the 7th Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, the Jianning Hospital, the Pinghu Hospital, the Dapeng Hospital and Shenzhen No. 2 Children"s Hospital.
Luo Liexuan, head of Shenzhen"s health and family planning commission, said the plans are part of the city"s reform and development plans for the health sector.
Among the 12 hospitals, 10 are located in districts outside the original Special Economic Zone.
By 2020, the new hospitals will have 25,000 hospital beds and offer 12,000 posts for medical workers. The ratio will reach 4.3 beds for every 1,000 residents, higher than the provincial average in Guangdong.
The non-government hospitals that reach A-level standards can get subsidies of up to 20 million yuan (US$3.17 million) from the government.
The city will also increase construction standards of community clinics. The size of community clinics could reach more than 1,000 square meters. Clinic service fees will be lowered and more services will be provided in the clinics. By the end of 2018, grass-roots medical institutions, including community clinics, will receive 70 percent of total medical visits. (Han Ximin)
