The State Council inter-departmental task force for COVID-19 response has dispatched a work team to Guangdong Province to guide the region’s efforts in curbing local COVID-19 breakout, National Health Commission spokesperson Mi Feng said yesterday.
Gatherings and personnel movement should be limited in medium- and high-risk areas, Mi said.
He also urged efforts to ensure the supply of daily necessities to those quarantined at home and keep track of their health conditions.
To handle the recent resurgence of COVID-19 effectively, the province’s capital Guangzhou has launched a series of measures to prevent the virus from further spreading.
Starting yesterday, people leaving Guangzhou from the city’s Baiyun International airport, train stations and shuttle bus stations need to show proof of a negative nucleic acid test within 72 hours, unless they were transiting, the city said in a statement late Sunday.
When they enter the city’s railway stations, namely Guangzho, Guangzhou East, Guangzhou South, Guangzhou North, Xintang South, Shipai Station and Qingsheng stations, travelers need to show the green health code and the proof, and have their body temperatures measured.
Those who bought railway tickets before 10 p.m. yesterday and whose departure or destination stations are Guangzhou can get their refunds for free.
The Guangzhou Railway Group Corp. said it will tighten temperature and health code checks at railway stations and on trains to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The waiting halls and train depots will be ventilated and disinfected thoroughly. The railway group will also take temperatures of employees working on trains and at train stations every day.
In another development, starting yesterday, Guangzhou has suspended its residents’ personal appointments for vaccination against COVID-19, but group vaccination appointments from key personnel and industries will still be accepted, said Li Ming, vice mayor of Guangzhou, at a press conference yesterday.
According to Li , the city made the decision for the following considerations:
First, Guangzhou is devoting its main medical resources in nucleic acid testing, medical observations and health monitoring.
In addition, the city’s vaccination sites are getting overcrowded because more and more citizens are lining up for inoculation, which could cause cluster infection.
