An article written by Liu Lei, president of the Shenzhen Third People’s Hospital, ranked as the 15th most influential article published by Chinese scholars at four world-leading science journals in 2020.
The article “Treatment of 5 Critically Ill Patients with COVID-19 with Convalescent Plasma” published at The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) is regarded as a major discovery or theoretical breakthrough in clinical medical science.
Articles published at four world influential journals like The New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, JAMA and British Medical Journal are generally used as major references to evaluate the writers’ academic level or their academic influences.
In the influence ranking of articles published by Chinese scholars at Cell, Nature and Science in the year 2020, three articles from the hospital entered top 50, showing the benefits of joint research cooperation between hospitals and universities, according to a release from Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) on Tuesday.
The article “Human Neutralizing Antibodies Elicited by SARS-CoV-2 Infection” published at Nature by Zhang Zheng, head of the hospital’s research institute, ranked 12th. Zhang’s “Host-Viral Infection Maps Reveal Signatures of Severe COVID-19 Patients” published at Cell ranked 46th. The other article, “A Non-competing Pair of Human Neutralizing Antibodies block 2 COVID-19 virus Binding to its Receptor ACE2” by Liu and published at Science took the 17th place.
Since 2020, the hospital has set up 88 research topics including two topics that gained support from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and Guangdong Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and one topic supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Six research topics have gained awards at national, provincial and municipal levels.
