THE traffic police authority has started issuing drivers" licenses valid for 10 years.
Drivers with good driving records over the past six years can have their licenses extended to 10 years when they are renewed.
The traffic management regulation took effect May 1, 2004, extending validation of driver"s licenses to 10 years for drivers with good driving records. Drivers who maintain good driving records can obtain driver"s licenses valid for life from 2020.
However, the regulation applies to licenses issued only after May 1, 2004. Drivers who obtained a license before that date must apply for six-year licenses before being eligible for a 10-year license, police said.
If a driver hasn"t lost all the 12 points each year for the past six years, he or she will be considered to have a good driving record, according to the traffic authority.
