MORE than 15,000 students will be enrolled by three Shenzhen universities for the new semester in September, slightly fewer than last year.
Shenzhen University plans to enroll 6,000 students, Shenzhen Polytechnic 7,320 and Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology 2,100.
Nearly 75 percent will be Shenzhen students with permanent residence permits with the rest coming from outside the city.
To meet the needs of the city"s growth, Shenzhen University will open two new programs including physical education and photo-electricity engineering while Shenzhen Polytechnic will offer new courses in accounting, printing equipment and skills, electronic technology and management. Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology will offer seven majors which are closely related to the city"s economy such as computer network management, animation, international cargo transport and culture market management.
At present, more than 43,000 students are studying at the three universities.
