Man gets 14 years for false salary claims
A MAN was sentenced to 14 years" jail by the Luohu District Court last Friday after having been found to have falsely claimed 1.2 million yuan (US$148,000) in unpaid salaries.
The man, Hu Yulin, 39, had worked for the Huafeng Company before being terminated in Jan. 1997.
He was employed as a project manager and knew details of the company"s project management procedures.
The sentence stems from a lawsuit in 2001 when Hu claimed that 173 employees had been hired between 1995 and 1996, but Huafeng Company had fallen into arrears with their salaries.
Hu won the 2001 lawsuit and was awarded 1.5 million yuan in compensation for the 173 "employees."
However, the Huafeng Company was later able to prove that the 173 employees and their contracts were fake.
The company conducted a detailed investigation in five provinces including Hunan, Sichuan, Hubei, Jiangsu and Jiangxi. The investigation team traced more than 50 people included in the 173 and found that none of the 50 had worked on any company project. Some were even confirmed by local schools as registered students during the claimed contract period.
A later investigation conducted by police also showed that Hu had kept the entire compensation amount.
In 2002, He was charged by the Luohu Procuratorate with preparing 173 false contracts and payrolls.
Hu went before the Luohu Procuratorate in Sept. 2003 and was sentenced on Friday.
